The new district of Bachet de Pesay is the 'South Pole' of the Geneva metropolitan area. This part of the city has been completely refurbished with major public works projects, including the ice stadium and the CEVA station, which is a key regional public transport infrastructure. The plot opens onto a vast landscape: Lake Geneva to one side and the Salève and Jura Mountain ranges to the other. Despite its favourable location, the new buildings are affected by the nearby Saint-Julien Road and must comply with strict OPAM (Major Accident Prevention Ordinance) regulations. To address these issues, a low building block has been proposed alongside the road, while three polygonal towers of varying heights arranged in a recess
will accommodate most of the dwellings. Their fan-shaped layout provides ample public space and optimal apartment habitability, sheltered from traffic. Although each tower has a different interior layout and façade colour, the conceptual principle remains the same: compact service blocks and room groups are followed by more flexible and dynamic living spaces. The jury awarded second prize and a reward of 45,000 CHF.
