Metalor is one of the world's leading precious metal refiners and has been operating in the canton of Neuchâtel since 1852. The production centre in Marin, which was already expanded by the Grard studio in 2016 with the construction of an office and laboratory building (Latenor), needed new space to expand its activities. Initially, a feasibility study was commissioned to assess the various possibilities for maximising the density of the site. In a second stage, a project was developed that focused mainly on enlarging the production hall and constructing a second office building towards the car park to the west. This involved an in-depth analysis of the various precious metal
processing and refining activities, which were then reorganised within the planned spaces. To harmonise the new extensions with the existing building, the same perforated and folded aluminium sheet used for the Latenor building was chosen to enliven the façades with a play of light and shadow.
