In the heart of the Arc Sportif ZAC (joint development zone) in Colombes, the project for 45 social housing units is being developed within the Iilôt Magellan, a residential complex of 700 housing units planned on an urban scale by the Castro Denissof & Associés studio.
A greenhouse, at the north of the lot, protects the housing from the noise coming from the nearby A86 motorway.
As well as being an anti-sound barrier, the greenhouse has also been designed to accommodate commercial and productive activities useful for the neighborhood.
The building, oriented east-west, was conceived in two blocks. On the standard floors, each stairwell provides access to three or four
different apartments that face one or two sides. A central functional core consisting of the kitchen units, the bathroom, and a toilet separates the apartment into a living area and a sleeping area.
On the last floors some of the apartments are designed as maisonette units, more articulated, with an interior staircase or a private roof terrace. That makes a sculptural figure of this residential building reacting with outlined volumes to the urban planning of the new neighbourhood.
